Opened June 1932, with 586 seats, taking over from the older Palace (I) just along Gordon Street. The opening film, Congress Dances.was a tale of a Russian Czar falling for a Viennese glove seller at the 1815 Vienna Congress, and starred Willy Fritsch and Lilian Harvey. Provost Christie officiated. The proscenium is recorded as being 27 feet wide. In 1938, it was refurbished and renamed Playhouse. An offshoot of Caledonian Associated Cinemas, the Highland Cinema Company Ltd, operated it.
Notable for the Venetian murals which adorned the sidewalls and appear to have been painted by the cinema's own manager (see below).
Closed 1970 but not demolished until 2009.
A car park now occupies the site.
