The buildings forming the Princes Square shopping centre in Glasgow's Buchanan Street were originally a variety of structures dating from the mid-1800s, sited around a courtyard. In the 1980s, they were redeveloped into an upmarket shopping centre - elegant steelwork was inserted to support a glass roof, lifts and wooden-fronted balconies giving access to the boutique shops at each level. Smaller stalls and restaurants also featured and the whole development is widely considered to have been an instrumental piece of urban regeneration for Glasgow.
It was extended in the late 1990s and was a natural fit for a small boutique-style cinema. This was realised in October 2018 when Everyman opened a 3 screen complex opening out to the courtyard floor at basement level. As well as a spacious bar and restaurant, the cinema's screens feature individual sofa-style seating with cushions and tables.
