Pictures from 1958 courtesy of David Low.A public hall which appears to have opened in 1889, although a plaque records it being gifted to Aberlour by James Fleming, Banker, in 1896. Seems to have been converted to a cinema in the 1940s, note the projection box built over the main entrance.
It was run in the 1950s by a company called Spey Vale Cinemas, who are noted in the 1958 Kine Year Book as being headquartered in the Picture House, Dufftown. In addition to Aberlour and Dufftown, the company also appeared to run the Church Hall, Rothes at this time. The proprietor of Spey Vale Cinemas is listed as J.F. Collinson.
Cinema use appears to have ended in the early 1960s with the projection box structure removed sometime thereafter. The building is currently run as a venue and community facility by the Aberlour Community Association, who lease it from Moray Council. In 2026, the council proposed that renewal of the lease would come with the added burden of the Association becoming responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the main fabric of the building. The old lease was extended till October 2026 to give the Association time to work through the new lease terms.
